Palace of Saints Michael and George
The Palace of St. Michael and George was built in 1819-1924 AD. on the English Commissioner Thomas Maitland, by the architect G. Whitmore. The most important monument of the British rule, one of the first neoclassical works in Greece. Built of Malta stone.
The name “Palace of Saints Michael and George” was given because, in addition to the offices and residence of the English Commissioners, it was the seat of the order of the same name.
Achilleion
The Palace is located in the mountainous village of Gastouri, ten kilometers southwest of the city of Corfu among the olive groves, unfolding before the visitor’s eyes the rich vegetation of this beautiful area of the island.
